Commissioners approve Magnolia Days event, consent items and reschedule tax‑abatement hearing to March 9

The court granted a request from the Columbus Chamber of Commerce to use the courthouse grounds for the Magnolia Days Festival May 10–17, 2026; the application lists Shelley Janik as the contact and anticipates 4,000–5,000 attendees. Commissioner Keith Neuendorff moved to approve the event; Commissioner Shannon Owers seconded and the motion passed 4–0.
The court also approved all consent items by unanimous vote. Consent approvals included: a $1,500 donation to the sheriff’s office from Thunder by the Colorado; $500 in dues for the Lower Colorado River Basin Coalition; ratification of a resolution authorizing submission and acceptance of the Rural Ambulance Service Grant (H.B. 3000); a memorandum of understanding for cooperative juvenile probation operations with Gonzales and Colorado‑Lavaca counties; continuing‑education certificates for several county officials; and certificates of liability insurance from vendors.
Separately, the court rescheduled a public hearing to consider amendments to the county's Tax Abatement Guidelines and Criteria to March 9, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. in Courtroom 106, as required by Texas Tax Code §312.002(c‑1; notice and a posting link were included in the record.
