Dickens County Commissioners approve consent agenda, indemnity for Texas Fire Code Consultants invoice; treasurer certified $8.8 million

According to the minutes, Sheriff Jay Allen presented the Sheriff's Department report; Stella Carter, J.P., presented the Justice of the Peace report; Rhonda Brendle presented the Tax Assessor-Collector report; Danay Carnes presented the Clerk's office report; Brandi Abbott presented the treasurer's report; and Paden Shafer presented a report for the Texas Wildlife service. Commissioners also reported on road conditions in their precincts.
The consent agenda included approval of purchases described in the minutes as exceeding the county spending policy: grader blades for precincts 3 and 4; a major oil change on a precinct 2 motor grader; two totes of Roundup; and repairs to the heater and air conditioning on the precinct 3 Cat loader. "Chris Horn made the motion to approve the Consent Agenda Items as submitted. Dennis Wyatt second the motion. Motion passed unanimously," the minutes state.
On the action agenda, Commissioner Mike Smith moved to approve an invoice to Texas Fire Code Consultants to be indemnified by Galaxy Digital; Greg Arnold seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The Court recessed at 10:05 a.m. and resumed at 10:15 a.m. After resuming, Mike Smith moved and Chris Horn seconded a motion to approve claims incurred against the county since the last court; the motion passed unanimously. A motion by Greg Arnold, seconded by Dennis Wyatt, approved payment of Historical Commission bills. The minutes record no line-item transfers and no budget amendments during the session.
In an affidavit filed with the minutes and approved in open court, the Court certified compliance with Texas Local Government Code Section 114.026 and recorded that $8,795,709.37 remained in the custody of Brandi Abbott, Dickens County treasurer, as of Jan. 31, 2026. The Court adjourned at 11:26 a.m.
