Union County staff on May 18 outlined plans to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States with a series of community events, educational programming and outreach.
Liz Cooper, public communications director, said the county launched a web hub (unioncountync.gov/america2fifty) as the central information source for events and resources. She highlighted several initiatives: a veterans resource fair May 30, a student art contest accepting submissions through June 12 with community voting to follow, children’s programming at the library through June and July, and a July 25 "Country Under the Stars" concert at the Simpson Event Center (weather-permitting fireworks).
Cooper said the county will promote events through the Engage Union County platform and its weekly Union County Horizon newsletter (about 60,000 subscribers) and noted partnerships with municipal and community organizations. A proclamation recognizing America 2.50 will be presented at the June 16 meeting.
