Boulder City Council canvasses and certifies municipal election returns in 2-0 vote

At a special meeting Wednesday, the Boulder City Council convened to canvass and approve the official municipal election returns, adopting the results in a 2-0 vote.

Chair (S2) opened the meeting at 4:30 p.m., explained that only two council members were present and that state law permits two members to canvass returns, and moved to take up agenda item 3. A council member (S1) made the motion to proceed and a council member (S3) seconded it.

The council recorded the official vote totals announced at the meeting: 238 votes for Greg Mitchell and 101 for Mike Gutierrez in the contested Place 1 race. Place 2 and Place 4 were uncontested; the council recorded 249 votes for Anne Caraway (Place 2) and 259 votes for Sabrina McGowan (Place 4). The council member (S1) restated the margin in the contested race as roughly 70.21% to 29.79%.

Council member (S3) offered brief congratulatory remarks to the winners. Chair (S2) noted the turnout was "one of the lowest in our history," characterized the situation as an "interesting, bizarre, historical landmark," and then called for a vote to accept the returns as presented.

Following an oral vote, the presiding official announced the motion carried 2-0. With the canvass complete, the chair adjourned the special meeting at 4:33 p.m.

The meeting record shows the council formally accepted the canvass of returns and approved agenda item 3 as written; no public commenters were signed up and no further actions were taken.
