Lyon County commissioners brief Dayton advisory board on solar ordinances, local projects and emergency services updates

Lyon County commissioners and local public-safety officials briefed the Dayton Regional Advisory Board at its April 8 meeting on preparations for renewable-energy regulation, local infrastructure projects and emergency-services activity.
Commissioner Tammy Hendrix said she has been attending rural energy training, roughly five hours a week, to assist the county in drafting ordinances for solar installations and data center regulation as the county expects an influx of that industry. Commissioner John Cassinelli reported that watershed test results came back healthy and that the Boys & Girls Club ELC is expected to open in August or September. Cassinelli said Mark Twain master-plan improvements have been approved and noted a CAMPO budget surplus of $900,000; he said he would like that surplus used to fund street lighting for Mound House along Highway 50. Cassinelli also noted the BOCC approved two robotic lawn mowers for Lyon County Parks to free up staff time.
Chamber of Commerce announcements included scheduling for Dayton Valley Days on Sept. 19–20 and a cancellation of planned NDOT work on the Shady Lane Bridge. The chamber also listed several community events and a short-term park closure for tree maintenance.
Central Lyon County Fire & Rescue representatives reported that Rolling A received a Fire Chiefs Grant for abatement work on White Top in the river corridor, that open burning will be closed on May 1, that a free dump trailer program will continue through the year, and that Wildfire Awareness Day will be held May 2 at the CLFD Stagecoach station. Chief Mchargue was noted as having won the chili cook-off; a hearing on a helipad at Station 38 (off 6 Mile Canyon) is scheduled for April 14.
The advisory board approved its agenda and the March 4 minutes by unanimous 3-0 votes earlier in the meeting, and members were notified of mandatory Open Meeting Law training on April 11 in Silver Springs. The board also announced a change to hold future DRCAB meetings on the second Wednesday of each month.
