Lyon County Fairboard approves leases, approves magician and backs Hispanic Day funding request

The Lyon County Fairboard on April 8 approved multiple facility lease agreements for the 2026–2027 period, settled a contract with a bilingual magician for the upcoming fair and voted to seek additional funding for a revived Hispanic Day event.
Board business began with routine approvals: the meeting agenda and the March 4, 2026 minutes were adopted unanimously. The board then approved a group of lease agreements covering Voshal Hall, the Main Barn and the Big Barn on specified dates. The minutes list renters and dates including Medoza—Voshal Hall (May 9, 2026), Fonseca—Main Barn (September 5, 2026), Felemair—Big Barn (April 24, 2027), Fonesca—Main Barn (June 5, 2027) and Juntunen—Main Barn (July 17, 2027); the board approved the slate of leases "with normal fees."
Separately, the board discussed an NIC request to rent Voshal Hall. The board approved the NIC/Ray Voshal Hall lease with the stipulation that NIC use only the Hall and the warmup arena and that no camping occur on the grass; the board emphasized that renters must remain in the designated areas.
On entertainment, the board reviewed multiple vendor quotes for the Fair & Rodeo. Lisa Tibbals presented a vendor quote from Eagle Valley to produce a banner at about $600 plus approximately $600 for installation; she will check whether the cost could be covered by room tax and bring findings to the next meeting. High Rock Security’s proposal was discussed; the board noted a previously approved security budget of $5,000 and flagged the need to negotiate whether the security contract should include motel-room coverage. A DJ quote that included an optional back speaker for $930 was discussed and the board asked for a revised quote limited to main-stage service.
The board approved a contract for a bilingual magician, billed in the minutes as "Magic Rafael," at $3,600 plus two motel rooms. Eric Glasglow moved to approve the magician contract and Michael Giorgi seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
On community programming, Lisa Tibbals and Stefanie Moxley reported meeting with Omar Rodriguez and a small committee to restart Hispanic Day (proposals included returning a Queen contest and featuring Hispanic dancers). They proposed increasing the Hispanic Day budget from $500 to $1,000; Paul Silva moved to request an additional $500 from Josh Foli for the Hispanic band line item, Stefanie Moxley seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
All recorded motions in the minutes passed unanimously. The meeting closed with an update that livestock show preparations are progressing and with a note of thanks from Chair Curtis Jordan to volunteers and board members.
