The Hancock County Commission on May 14 voted to approve a memorandum of understanding with Brooke County to create a joint local emergency planning district aimed at speeding the distribution of emergency information and keeping both counties coordinated during incidents.
Chair (S4) said Brooke County had not always maintained a separate planning committee but that the two counties have "always collaborated"; the MOU formalizes that collaboration so emergency services information "gets spread where it needs to go as fast as possible," the chair said. The measure passed by voice vote.
Commissioners noted the arrangement will help ensure consistent messaging and mutual awareness across county lines; no implementation timeline beyond the approval was recorded in the transcript.
