Vernon Communications asks county to back broadband grant to reach about 500 residents

Olson asked the county for a letter of support to accompany a grant application and outlined a proposed match structure consisting of roughly: Vernon Communications 25 percent, Vernon County 10 percent, three business customers 10 percent, and ten residential customers 5 percent. The committee asked Olson to return with a specific dollar amount for the county contribution.
The Finance Committee voted to have county staff draft a letter of support: motion by Mike Leis, second by Kevin Larson to have Dennis Brault work with Chairman Ole Yttri to draft the letter. The motion carried. Committee members did not set a dollar amount at the May 18 meeting and instructed Olson to provide a precise county-match figure at the next meeting.
