Grants update: Vernon County awaits Avalanche buyout decisions and reports progress on De Soto relocations

At the May 18 meeting Diane McGinnis provided a multi-part grants update focused on flood recovery and housing projects.
McGinnis said the county is waiting until July 31, 2017 to see whether the remaining three properties in the Avalanche buyout accept the county offer; the buyout outcomes will determine available funding for the Bloomingdale acquisition. She reported that the Tally Dam project is complete and that staff held seven public information meetings on flood recovery across the county in the prior three weeks.
On housing replacement, McGinnis said five replacement mobile homes have been placed at the De Soto mobile home park: three households have already moved in, one home is being set the week of the meeting and another the following week. She said roughly six projects are currently out to bid and stated hard costs to date of $613,469.36.
McGinnis also reported Revolving Loan Fund activity: the committee approved two new loans this month totaling $520,000, with one loan closed. Separately, Vernon Manor requested assistance for LED lighting upgrades and for grant support tied to assisted-living services.
Under Item #6 the committee approved payment of $409.47 to reimburse the state for prior-year administrative costs on the Training Workers Grant; Chairman Ole Yttri said he will consult with county staff to determine where to charge the expense. Under Item #7 the committee approved a room-rate exception for Mark Johnson to attend Housing Quality Standards Inspection training in Wisconsin Dells, allowing a $119 nightly rate for three nights (an excess of $29 per night).
