Vernon County finance committee warns unused Ho-Chunk funds must be spent by Nov. 30 or shift to building fund

The Vernon County Finance Committee met May 18, 2017 in Room 309 of the Courthouse Annex and heard a detailed Treasurer’s report from Rachel Hanson.
Hanson told the committee that several departments still hold Ho-Chunk Nation funds allocated in 2014 and earlier that remain unused. Committee members directed Hanson to contact those departments and flagged a hard deadline: any remaining funds must be used by Nov. 30, 2017 or they will be transferred to the New Building Fund. The committee approved the Treasurer’s report on a motion by Will Beitlich, seconded by Kevin Larson; the motion carried.
Committee members reviewed printed financial statements that showed a page-one balance of $16,868,370.72 and itemized receipts, payroll and ACH withdrawals. The packet included figures for 2016 tax collections, redemption taxes, multi-year sales-tax receipts and several pool and bank balances; committee members did not alter the figures but accepted the report as presented.
The Treasurer’s presentation set the financial context for other agenda items, including grant-funded recovery projects and loan activity discussed later in the meeting. The committee did not take any additional action on budgeting or transfers at this meeting.
