City prepares solicitation for $6.1M dredging grant focusing on Manuel’s Branch

Environmental Compliance Manager Justin Mahon said the project covers dredging, hurricane debris removal and flow restoration across seven canals and waterways, with significant attention expected for Manuel’s Branch because of known sedimentation. He said the solicitation number is RSQ 26-040; the submission deadline is May 6, 2026; and a pre-proposal meeting is scheduled for April 14, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall (Financial Conference Room West). The city is seeking at least two qualified applicants to meet USDA requirements.
Mahon said the October 2025–January 2026 water-quality monitoring report for Manuel’s Branch was delayed by the consultant but has now been received and will be refined and shared with Council and the Board. Board Member Craig Edwards suggested engaging Calusa Waterkeeper to help identify potential contractors and increase outreach to qualified bidders.
The board did not vote on contract awards; the solicitation and pre-proposal timeline were provided for interested firms.
