Halifax County Electoral Board names officers for 2025 and approves FY2025–26 budget

Ellen Kent moved that Matthew Cunningham serve as chair and Glenn Ferguson serve as vice chairman, with Kent to remain secretary; Glenn Ferguson seconded the motion and the board approved the reorganization. The minutes from prior meetings were then read and approved after a motion from Glenn Ferguson and a second from Matthew Cunningham.
During the meeting the Registrar reported on plans for the Virgilina Precinct, saying a conversation with Mr. Murray, the fire chief, included a request that the precinct be relocated to a larger facility. Board members discussed the VFW building in Virgilina as a potential alternate site and agreed to follow up with site visits.
The board then took up new business: the proposed fiscal year 2025–26 budget, which begins in July 2025. The Registrar and board members reviewed each budget account and discussed proposed operational increases; after discussion the board agreed to the projected increases. Matthew Cunningham moved to accept the proposed budget, Ellen Kent seconded, and the motion passed. The minutes do not specify dollar amounts or account-level figures discussed.
With no additional business, Chair Matthew Cunningham moved to adjourn, Vice Chairman Glenn Ferguson seconded, and the meeting ended at 12:42 p.m. The board scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, at 11:30 a.m.
