The Pocatello Planning and Zoning Commission on May 13 recommended approval of an annexation application for a 19.19‑acre parcel identified as Parcel R4013012907 and proposed to be known as Century Commons. The application requests annexation into Pocatello City and assignment of Commercial General zoning.
"Before you is an application for annexation of approximately 19.19 acres," said Merrill Quel of Sunrise Engineering, the applicant's representative, noting the parcel is across from Century High School and that city utilities are available to serve the site. Quel told the commission the applicant believes the proposal meets the city's standards and comprehensive plan guidance for commercial uses along major corridors.
Jim Anglesey, the city's long‑range planner, told the commission the annexation process follows Idaho State Code Title 50, Chapter 2, and that staff concluded the proposed Commercial General zoning is consistent with the comprehensive plan and surrounding land‑use pattern. Anglesey said notice was posted and published in the Idaho State Journal and that staff had not received written comments as of the hearing.
Two speakers offered public support. Ron Dyckman, who identified himself by name and referenced his firm's prior local developments, said the proposed development would be well‑designed. Maheem Rahim said he plans to be a partner in the project and cited proximity to the high school and the potential for new amenities for students.
A commissioner moved to recommend approval of the annexation and Commercial General zoning (the motion text on the record referenced David Hassan as the applicant); after a second the commission voted to recommend approval and to authorize the chair or vice chair to sign findings of fact and recommendation. The commission then closed the meeting.
The staff record and presentations cited Idaho State Code and Pocatello City Code provisions in support of the decision. The commission's recommendation will be forwarded in accordance with city procedure for final action or further review.
