Kossuth County adopts FY2026-27 budget, approves elected-official pay increases and economic development spending

Kossuth County supervisors unanimously adopted the FY2026-27 county budget and certified taxes at their April 21 regular meeting. The adoption followed a public hearing at which County Auditor Tammy Eden presented the proposed budget and the board recorded that no written or in-person objections were received.
The budget resolution (No. 04-21-26-02) directs the county auditor to file the approved budget and to establish accounting records in accordance with the published schedules, the board said. Auditor Tammy Eden presented the summary during the hearing.
At the same meeting the board approved Resolution 04-21-26-01 setting elected-official compensation for FY2026-27. The compensation schedule adopted by the board lists a 3% increase for the county auditor, attorney, recorder, treasurer and supervisors and a 6% increase for the sheriff (the compensation board’s original recommendation for the sheriff shown in the record was higher; the adopted schedule lists the board-approved adjustments). The motion to adopt the compensation resolution passed on a roll-call vote with all four supervisors voting aye.
Supervisors also approved Resolution 04-21-26-03, declaring expenditures for economic development a public purpose for FY2026-27; the resolution states funds will be used to raise Kossuth County’s profile to attract businesses and jobs and to enhance quality of life. That motion passed unanimously.
The board approved, by separate motion, a renewal of the county’s Avesis vision plan on the current L3 plan. Supervisor Amber Garman voted no on the Avesis renewal; the three other supervisors voted to sign the renewal.
The board directed staff to proceed with hiring a replacement for the HR/CPC position and acknowledged a budget status report. The meeting concluded with procedural assignments of drainage-district requests to individual supervisors and other routine agenda items. The board adjourned at 11:34 a.m.
