The Dallas City Council on May 18 unanimously approved Resolution 35‑67, authorizing staff to apply for an Oregon Parks and Recreation Department local government grant to complete the Furvilla (Fervilla) section of the Requiel Creek trail.
Parks staff explained the project will link Furvilla Road to the city golf course with an approximately quarter‑mile trail segment and a trailhead; Lock Engineering provided design and a cost estimate. Tyler Ferrari, the city’s economic development specialist, told the council the total estimated cost is $344,143 and the city will request $206,485.80 from the state grant program, with the remaining roughly $137,000 to be paid from Park SDC funds.
Staff said awards are typically announced late summer; if awarded the project would go out to bid over the winter and be constructed as weather permits in spring. Councilors asked about elevation and retaining‑wall needs, potential floodplain impacts and where easements will be required; staff said some challenging, expensive sections remain and some easements are developer‑driven while other segments will be city‑funded.
The council voted to submit the grant application and authorized the city manager (or designee) to sign the application. The resolution passed unanimously.
During public comment earlier in the meeting, the Friends of the Dallas Aquatic Center announced a charitable bequest of $82,500.60 to the pool and related gifts to the library; councilors acknowledged the donation during the evening’s public comment period.
