Emery County Travel Bureau approves Green River landfill MOU, multiple marketing grants and routine renewals

The Emery County Travel Bureau on May 12 approved a set of administrative measures intended to clarify how tourism-related road work and demolition waste will be handled in Green River and to finance outbound marketing.
The board voted unanimously to establish a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Green River and the Green River road department to permit scheduled use of a construction/structural landfill for removal of dilapidated buildings and other structural waste, with Tourism-Retail-Transfer (TRT) funds participating in defined ways. The motion to establish the landfill MOU was made by a board member and seconded; the chair called a roll call and announced the motion passed unanimously.
Earlier in the discussion members also agreed to develop a separate MOU that documents the existing arrangement for a TRT-funded road-department employee based in Green River so that the current work is captured on paper before additional arrangements are layered on. The board emphasized the two agreements should be separate legal documents so that if the landfill plan does not proceed, the existing road-work agreement remains intact.
On other procedural business the board voted to renew its EventMe (Eventree) subscription on an annual basis rather than commit to an upfront multi‑year payment. Staff said multi‑year options would require upfront payment and could complicate cooperative marketing applications.
The bureau also authorized staff to apply for up to $60,000 in co‑op marketing grant funds. Staff told the board the grant would be split across eligible line items (event marketing contracts, boosted social media, PlaceYourAI/GoUtah placements and possible YouTube ads) and cautioned that the state office’s tighter preapproval rules and increased auditor scrutiny mean only clearly eligible expenses should be included.
