White Oak named a Bird Town; Audubon presents certificate and $2,000 mini-grant

Nick Stallman of the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania presented the borough with an official Bird Town certificate and two street signs during the May 18 meeting, recognizing White Oak’s bird-friendly practices and the newly formed Bird Town committee.
"This community is working towards promoting stewardship through sustainable practices and habitat protection," Stallman said, noting the Bird Town recognition and a $2,000 mini-grant secured through the Pittsburgh Foundation to support committee activities. Stallman encouraged continued native-plant initiatives and offered Audubon support for community plantings and outreach.
Council members and committee nominees joined Stallman for a photo and the signs were offered for placement where council sees fit. Stallman said the program is statewide and connected to the Bird City Network, which is international in scope.
