DeKalb Township approves $5,000 DCDC contribution and funds two youth programs

DeKalb Township trustees approved a $5,000 contribution to the DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation (DCDC) and approved committee-recommended youth funding allocations during the April 21 meeting.
The supervisor described the township’s multi-year membership with the DCDC and recommended moving to the investor level to gain program exposure and support local employer attraction. The board voted to approve $5,000 for the upcoming period.
During the committee-on-youth funding cycle (March), the committee reviewed four applications and recommended funding two programs. The board approved recommended awards of $3,875 each to the DeKalb Chamber Foundation for a 'Heavy Metal' summer trades experience that provides high-school students hands-on exposure to trades, and to Building Leaders Advocating for Change, a summer program at Northern Illinois University serving underserved high-school-age youth.
Board discussion noted limited remaining youth-fund budget as the reason awards were lower than requested amounts. Trustees approved both funding motions by roll call.
