The Regional School District 12 Board of Education voted to approve a new educator and leader evaluation and support plan and authorized its submission to the Connecticut State Department of Education by Aug. 1.
On behalf of the district professional development and evaluation committee (PDEC), the presenter (identified in the meeting as a PDEC representative) described the process used since April to develop the 20‑plus page plan. The presenter said the plan follows the state’s model guidance, incorporates feedback from administrators, teachers, and the teachers’ union and includes rubrics, multiple annual goal‑setting meetings, observation and feedback protocols, and a clear process to support educators who are struggling.
"We looked at the CEA model plan and the state's model plan and created our own plan," the presenter said, summarizing the committee's work and the district’s intent to continue revising the plan through the coming school year.
Board Chair (speaker labeled S1) clarified that approving the plan tonight would allow the district to submit the plan to the state for review; it is not the final, unchangeable plan. The board voted to approve the submission; the motion passed unanimously.
What happens next: the plan will be sent to the Connecticut State Department of Education for review by the Aug. 1 deadline. The board and PDEC plan continued meetings next year to refine implementation and professional learning before wider rollout to educators and leaders.
