Joshua Fredrickson briefed the Board of County Commissioners on the Bowers Field Capital Project Plan. He said the Federal Aviation Administration is indicating that several previously phased projects — hangar taxi lane expansion, a parallel taxiway, runway lighting improvements, and runway narrowing — should be bundled into one larger project estimated at $12 million to $15 million.
Fredrickson told the board that airport projects are typically funded at 90% by the FAA with the county responsible for approximately 10% and that Washington State aviation grant funding may offset half of the county share, leaving an estimated county obligation of about 5% if state funds are secured. He said timing for the project is currently anticipated in the 2028–2029 timeframe and that no action was taken at the study session.
The briefing was informational; staff indicated planning and budget forecasting will be necessary to prepare for the county match if the FAA pursues bundled project funding.
