Solanco board approves finance reports and a package of contracts including IEP medical review and therapy coverage

The Solanco School District board approved a series of routine finance reports and multiple service and vendor contracts at its May 18 meeting, actions the board said support special-education services, summer extended learning and planned technology replacement.
Mrs. Tucker reported the general fund had April receipts of $3,246,217.58 and disbursements of $6,867,572.97, a month-end balance of $27,223,420.22; the capital project fund and cafeteria fund reports were also approved. "Total receipts for the month of April for the general fund, $3,246,217.58," Mrs. Tucker said during the finance presentation.
On contracts and program approvals, district staff described and the board approved: - LGH physician reviews for certain IEPs (to secure Medical Assistance reimbursement for personal-care-related IEP services); - an independent nurse-practitioner reviewer tied to MA reimbursement processes; - bilingual Spanish speech-language and Spanish-English school psychologist agreements required for native-language evaluations; - reserved slots and AEDY (Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth) programming with River Rock Academy to serve students needing alternative placements; - Sunbelt for occupational therapy coverage during staff leaves (staff noted typical hourly rates of roughly $90–$120 depending on therapist experience); - a dental-services agreement with three local dentists to provide student exams (staff said the per-child exam fee has not changed in roughly 19 years); - an Apple Store for Education quote to purchase 250 iPads for elementary students funded through the Ready to Learn grant; and - a dual-enrollment agreement with Franciscan University that allows students to earn college credit and includes an automatic-admission clause for students who complete more than three courses successfully.
"It is a net financial benefit to the district," Mr. Keeler said about physician review for certain IEPs, noting the district recovers MA reimbursement for eligible services when paperwork is approved by the medical provider.
All motions on the consent and contract agenda were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote with the board chair calling for ayes and no opposed responses recorded in the public session.
