Three St Charles CUSD 303 students honored for art; superintendent, teacher highlight awards

During the superintendent's update at the May 11 St Charles CUSD 303 board meeting, Fine Arts Department Chair Stephanie Dodd presented three student recognitions.
Stephanie Dodd described Ruby's photograph as a national Scholastic Art Competition silver medal winner that placed her among the top 1% of student artists nationwide. "Ruby ended up winning a national silver medal for this photograph, which puts her in the top 1% of student artists in the entire country," Dodd said. Ruby told the board the image was taken in a miniature room at the Art Institute of Chicago and described the piece as an "illusion" she created in editing.
Charlotte, who won third place at the Illinois High School Art Exhibition, said she captured color and the "essence of city life" during a field trip in Chicago and described taking the shot "within a few seconds of a person walking by in the reflection of a window." Dodd also noted Ross Pokarski earned the Visionary Award and was chosen for a senior exhibition and a gallery wall, with plans to study computer science and architecture.
The board and superintendent congratulated the students; the recognitions were presented before the board moved into a facilities work session later in the meeting.
