Community alumni praise FFA; board recognizes Seal of Biliteracy recipients and approves FFA overnight trip

Several alumni and community members told the Central CUSD 301 board how the district’s FFA chapter shaped careers and leadership skills and described the alumni association’s fundraising and volunteer support.
"The FFA program did a lot for me," said Scott Mann, a member of the Central Burlington FFA Alumni, recounting how the alumni provided scholarship and event support and helped students gain experience in competitions and conventions. Jonathan Klein and Jimmy Decuff offered similar testimonials about donated equipment, volunteer time and leadership development.
The board recognized 39 graduating seniors who earned the Illinois Seal of Biliteracy or a state commendation toward biliteracy; Tony Meyer, the district's assistant principal of student services, read the names of recipients and said Illinois public universities award two years of world language credit to students who earn the seal.
Chair also recognized the hiring of Tim Shermack as assistant principal for Prairie View following the personnel items in the consent agenda. Later in the meeting the board moved and approved an overnight trip for the FFA chapter by roll call.
What happens next: The FFA alumni said they intend to continue supporting student scholarships and programming; the overnight trip was approved and will proceed under district trip rules.
