Miss Baker reported a net fund balance of $28,421,050.65 (an 8.14% year-over-year increase) and operating funds of $23,854,271.54 (a 4.47% increase). She recommended reimbursement to the impressed account of $2,109.59 and payment of bills totaling $478,735.09; the board moved and approved that recommendation by roll call.
The consent agenda — including minutes, committee minutes, cafeteria and student-teacher reports, fundraisers and proposed disposal of junior-high auditorium seating — passed without recorded opposition. The board also approved annual participation in the SEPCO food cooperative ($100) and renewed the district's IHSA membership for 2026–27.
On capital and facility items, trustees approved purchase of 300 auditorium seats from the Salem Community Theater at $50 per seat ($15,000 total), to be paid from the BJHS building budget and BJHS fundraising account; maintenance will install the seats. The board also approved submitting a 10-year Health Life Safety report from VLDD Architects that identifies an estimated $130,000 in urgent (A) items and roughly $3.8 million in B items — about $4 million in potential needs overall — noting approval of the report does not obligate immediate district spending.
The board moved and approved a memorandum of understanding with the Effingham CUSD 40 Teachers Association to eliminate B-team athletics at the junior-high level effective next year, a change administration said the union had agreed to in bargaining.
Several motions were recorded by roll call and carried unanimously. The board then moved into closed session to discuss personnel, student-discipline, potential litigation and security procedures.
