Board approves 2028 Europe trip, hires three staff and accepts a small PTO donation

The Newgaris School Board approved a 2028 Europe student trip and confirmed three personnel hires during the meeting.
Doctor Thayer said the district works with the travel company EF and recommended locking in pricing early to help families plan. "That's why it's to you earlier," he said; trustees voted to approve the 2028 Europe trip by voice vote, 7–0.
The board then considered personnel actions. The hire of Madeline McIntyre for an elementary physical-education position was approved after trustees heard that she is a recent UWL graduate with coaching and ABA experience. The board also approved hiring Reese Leistakow as the high-school boys assistant basketball coach and hired Tyler Ballwig as the high-school girls head basketball coach; the latter passed with six votes in favor and one abstention.
Separately, Chair acknowledged a $123 donation from the PTO to support a first-grade field trip. Doctor Thayer also announced that the Swiss Center of North America and partners received a $108,000 grant for the Gardner Community Complex to support a plaza, pavilion and restroom/concession concept.
