New Glarus students represented at Capitol Conference and regional exhibits, teacher says

Members of the Newgaris High School art department presented student work to the school board, describing pieces accepted for the Capitol Conference Art Show and other recent recognitions.
The presenter told trustees that 12 schools participated in the conference and the district was allowed to send eight pieces; Peyton Vandegrift’s piece was selected as the district’s best-of-school entry. The presenter also noted that Amelia Rood’s illustration was published in Wisconsin People and Ideas, and that Annie Flush had a piece exhibited at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art in April.
Several students read short artist statements about their work. AJ Fleener, a senior, said she created a ceramic piece during a vulnerable period in a relationship; Maxwell Iranic, a sophomore, described a drawing inspired by the movie Interstellar and reflected on a speculative, cylindrical city. The presenter emphasized student effort and the community components of framing and exhibiting student work.
Board members thanked the students and invited the department to return next year.
