Doctor Thayer explained that the list in the board book includes new open-enrollment requests; standard formulas set in January determine available seats and there is no space available in special-education programs. He said the open-enrollment process in Wisconsin runs February–April but becomes fluid because an alternate period opens in July and some families apply to multiple districts. "So this open enrollment does become fluid even though there is a technically an open enrollment period that they're supposed to apply," Doctor Thayer said.
The board moved and seconded approval of the list and adopted the motion. Doctor Thayer said families would be notified and the notification includes a return form; families must tell the district by June whether they plan to attend.
Board members asked about the district’s net open-enrollment figures; administration estimated a net difference of about 10% of the student population as typical but did not provide an exact overall headcount in this meeting.
