The Newgaris School Board approved a 10¢ increase to school breakfast and lunch prices for the 2026–27 school year, the board decided after the budget committee recommended the modest raise to help offset rising food costs.
Doctor Thayer, speaking for administration, said the increase was intended to balance rising vendor and ingredient costs while minimizing the impact on families. “Basically, we are recommending a 10¢ increase in breakfast and lunch prices for next year,” Doctor Thayer said. He told the board the school’s preliminary budget remained slightly negative but that conservative budgeting and anticipated additional meal sales should bring it close to break-even.
The budget committee brought the recommendation forward and the chair noted that committee motions did not require a second. The board voted to approve the change; the motion carried 7 to nothing.
The fee schedule for 2026–27 was then presented with no other changes beyond the meal-price adjustment. The board approved the fee schedule on the committee recommendation.
