The City of Chadron on Monday approved a resolution awarding the construction contract for a new snow-removal and equipment hangar at the Chadron Municipal Airport.
Scott Schremmer, the city’s parks, cemetery and airport supervisor, told the council that K L Wood of Alliance submitted the low bid and that the full project — including engineering and related costs — would be approximately $1,040,000. Schremmer said the airport’s proportion of that cost should be in the range of about $40,000 after accounting for a state grant and other adjustments.
Schremmer said the project design needed revisions after code changes from the state fire marshal and additional Federal Aviation Administration coordination. He said that design revisions included relocating and rotating the building to meet setback requirements and to save on concrete costs. If contracts proceed on schedule, work would likely start in late summer and the contract completion date in the procurement documents showed an anticipated finish around August 2027.
Council members asked about bid tabulation and contractor outreach; Schremmer said two contractors bid and others had requested bid documents but did not submit proposals. The council voted by roll call to approve Resolution 2026-38.
The council approved related payments later in the meeting, including engineering invoices tied to the airport project. The resolution directs staff to finalize details with the successful bidder and proceed under the contract terms.
The airport supervisor said the project will return to the council if material change orders or funding changes occur.
