The presenter described Safety Town as "a real mini streetscape" that typically includes crosswalks, signage, a streetlight and even a railroad crossing to teach intersection and bicycle safety.
Vice Mayor Woodward and other commissioners expressed support for placing Safety Towns in multiple commission districts so local schools and youth groups could use them. The presiding officer took a motion and second and announced the motion carried 6-0.
The board did not adopt additional funding details at the meeting; staff said the Safety Town image shown was an example drawn from another municipality and that the program element would be included in the application if the commission approved the overall package.
