The Jefferson County Commission on Thursday approved a slate of routine agenda items, including community grants, contract amendments and a resolution adopting a FEMA multi‑jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Commissioners approved grouped consent items after a motion from a commissioner and subsequent voice votes. The packet included community grants and contract amendments for facility systems and district attorney office renovations; commissioners moved the items and recorded ayes from the dais.
Emergency Management Authority staff, identified in the meeting as Mister Coker, asked commissioners to adopt the multi‑jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan that covers six counties and 81 municipal jurisdictions. “The plan itself covering 6 counties is 2,215 pages,” Mister Coker said, and staff noted the plan has already received FEMA approval but requires a county resolution. Commissioners moved to adopt the resolution by voice vote, and the Chair recorded the ayes.
The meeting included several individual grant approvals. District 5 advanced a community grant to support Court Appointed Special Advocates for children in foster care; that motion passed by voice vote. County staff also sought approval to exercise contract extensions and amendments for jail fire/security maintenance, a water booster pump contract extension and architectural work for the district attorney office; those items were approved as presented.
The commission listed a resolution related to terminating a contract with James Paving as part of its resolutions packet and proceeded with routine legal and procurement items, with the county attorney presenting nine legal items including minutes and related approvals.
What happens next: staff will process the paperwork tied to the approved grants and contract renewals and will file the county’s resolution adopting the FEMA mitigation plan with the regional partners as required by FEMA.
