The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners heard a presentation from Megan Trevino, executive director of the West Central District Health Department, on a cardiovascular learning collaborative and "heart hub" kiosks that would provide self‑service blood‑pressure monitors and educational materials at public locations such as courthouses and libraries.
Trevino said cardiovascular disease rates in the district exceed state and national averages and that the heart hub program is intended to increase access to blood‑pressure screening and referrals to local providers. "What we're looking at for our heart hubs is being able to partner with different locations that are high‑traffic in trafficked areas," Trevino said, noting McPherson County as a pilot location and that the program has attorney‑reviewed disclaimers and a contract template to limit county liability.
Commissioners discussed placement in the courthouse and potential logistics such as signage, data logging for usage counts and whether staff would need to be present. Trevino said the devices are portable and require no dedicated staff: "It's just a small one like what you would have at home, only a little bit more robust," she said, adding the units can store anonymous usage data to help evaluate location effectiveness. The board signaled support and asked staff to coordinate a site and any contract language needed for placement on county property.
