Henderson County board recognizes students, teams ahead of graduations
Summary
The board honored students and programs: Jefferson Elementary’s Judge’s Scholar Jaya Gilbert; Kinley Arnett’s state banner selection; North Middle cadet basketball achievements; and an STLP team state championship. Several students and sponsors were recognized and photographed.
At its May 19 meeting the Henderson County Board of Education paused routine business to recognize student and staff achievements across the district.
The board presented Jefferson Elementary student Jaya Gilbert as Judge's Scholar. A school representative praised Jaya’s kindness and leadership; Jaya told the board, "My favorite part about being a Judge's Scholar is that I got to learn about my community."
Henderson County High School student Kinley Arnett was honored for her artwork selected for the Kentucky School Board Association Student Banner Design Showcase. Kinley said she drew inspiration from childhood building toys: "I immediately thought of Legos... so that's exactly what I wanted to make." Art teacher Kaley Haywood and family were recognized for supporting the entry.
North Middle School's cadet basketball program and STLP team were also recognized. Coaches and district staff highlighted conference championships, top finishes at state tournaments, coach-of-the-year awards and a state championship in a student video contest focused on attendance and belonging.
Superintendent Dr. Lawson and board members thanked students, teachers and families for their work ahead of upcoming graduation events and noted the district moved the meeting to accommodate senior activities and a parade.
