Anson County adopts resolution to seek PFAS funding for local studies

Anson County commissioners voted to adopt a resolution that authorizes county staff to seek state funding for studies and potential remediation related to PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contamination.
The county manager told the board that prior studies at the old Lisle landfill had detected PFAS and said the resolution would allow the county to pursue state resources for further study and for evaluation of local treatment options. "We've talked about the problems with PFOS, PFAS ... it's one of those chemicals that ... they call it a forever chemical," the manager said.
A commissioner moved that the board adopt the resolution so the manager could pursue PFAS funding; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The manager said there is early discussion about the possibility of a local treatment facility at the landfill and said additional study and funding would be necessary to determine feasibility.
Next step: the county manager is authorized to seek state funding and pursue studies; additional technical work and grant applications will follow.
