RSU 57 board adopts FY26–27 budget, calls June 9 referendum for school renovation bonds

The RSU 57 School Board on April 8 voted unanimously to adopt the FY26–27 general fund budget and to call associated warrants, including a referendum on June 9, 2026, to approve the issuance of bonds or notes for minor capital projects tied to a school revolving renovation.
Director Walsh presented the handouts and noted the board had previously reviewed the proposed budget; following questions the board moved, seconded and adopted the general fund budget.
The board also approved a separate vote to adopt the warrant and notice of election for Regional School Unit 57, calling a referendum for June 9, 2026 “for the purpose of approving the issuance of bonds or notes of the RSU for minor capital project purposes as described therein,” and authorized the superintendent to fill in adopted amounts after the public budget meeting. The board confirmed two key dates: the public district budget meeting on May 5 at 7 p.m. at Massabesic Middle School and the district vote on June 9.
Finance committee chair Wes Finney also noted the Anthem insurance rate for the coming year came in at 8.87% and that capital-planning and summer project priority lists were under review.
Next steps: administration will publish the warrant and notices as required, proceed with the budget meeting on May 5, and finalize referendum materials for the June 9 vote.
