At the start of the May 18 meeting the council presented community recognitions. The Outspoken Dance Company was honored for national competition placements; council members applauded the team’s discipline and success. The mayor and council then presented a proclamation for Gun Violence Awareness Day/Month to local organizers and Pastor Kerwin Manning, who thanked the city and spoke about community partnership and prevention programs.
Pasadena Police Department and public health staff described ongoing efforts: the department reported collecting 297 firearms in 2025, and the public health department noted distribution of free gun locks. The council also recognized Zachary Muñoz for statewide advocacy on food‑allergy policy, citing his role in the "Zachy" bill, the Munoz Safe Act and the ZachyFAST Act; Muñoz thanked the council and emphasized youth advocacy.
These ceremonial recognitions took place early in the agenda and were acknowledged by multiple councilmembers.
