Orderville planning board recommends denying rezoning for three parcels, forwards recommendation to Town Council

The Orderville Town Planning and Zoning Commission voted 2–1 on April 27, 2026 to recommend denial of a request by Terry Griffiths to rezone parcels O‑6‑13, O‑6‑14 and O‑6‑15 from Single Family Residential (R‑1A) to Commercial District (C‑1). The commission said the rezoning would reduce the town’s residential housing stock and that rezoning all three lots was not in the town’s best interest.

The motion to deny the rezoning recommendation was made by Tony Collins and seconded by Vice Chair Alex Pavlides. Commissioners Pavlides and Collins voted in favor; Commissioner Letitia Cox voted against. The commission recorded that Lot 13 is not directly involved in the proposed driveway access, a point cited in the board’s rationale for denying rezoning of all three lots.

The planning commission’s denial is a recommendation only; it will be forwarded to the Orderville Town Council for consideration at the council’s May 4 meeting, where the council may adopt, modify or overturn the commission’s recommendation. The commission did not record any formal amendments to the request during its discussion, and no formal conditions were attached to the denial recommendation.

Other business at the April 27 meeting included a procedural approval of the agenda and minutes and an announcement that May’s regular meeting would be rescheduled to May 18 due to Memorial Day. The commission recorded on May 18, 2026 that the April 27 minutes were approved (motion by Letitia Cox, seconded by Riley Anderson).
