County attorney updates board on federal lawsuit; commissioners convene closed session

County Attorney Blaine Bradshaw informed Granite County commissioners on Feb. 17 that Dr. Gary Snyder (ret.) filed a new federal lawsuit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 after having previously been removed for cause from the county’s Local Government Study Commission. Bradshaw said the county’s insurer will defend and indemnify the named parties and that Attorney Mark Johnson has been assigned to represent all defendants.
Bradshaw characterized the federal complaint as lacking a strong legal basis and noted that Snyder had earlier filed and voluntarily dismissed a state-court complaint. The latest filing seeks restoration of funds to the Local Study Commission budget and training funds; Bradshaw said the county had already paid for the Study Commission’s training.
Following the update, commissioners moved into a closed session to discuss litigation strategy.
