Board hears budget updates and expanded food-service audits; MDE coordination with Saint John's noted

Board member Barb provided a budget and compliance update, warning that the district’s revenue projections were lower than earlier expectations and describing new audit activity for the district’s food-service program.
Barb said the district is getting less than what was anticipated a month ago and that she will participate in a webinar to get final revenue numbers. She reported that ‘‘the CACFP had some minor findings’’ and noted the district received notice that the food-service program will be subject to additional audits this year.
Barb also said Rachel is working with the Minnesota Department of Education and Saint John's to set up Saint John's to make meal claims directly; the district will provide meals to Saint John's once that system is in place. She added the district plans to request a portion of HVED's student support funding to cover the social-worker position so that it is fully funded.
Why it matters: additional audits and lower revenue projections could affect staffing and program budgets going into the next fiscal year. The board did not record a vote on the budget details during this meeting; the administration will present a revised budget at an upcoming meeting.
