Williamston board approves three hires including new director of student services and high school principal

The Williamston Community Schools Board on Monday approved three personnel hires for the 2026–27 school year, moving ahead on classroom and leadership placements the district said are designed to strengthen student supports and school leadership.

The board voted to hire Shelby Woods as a fifth‑grade teacher after a hiring committee recommendation that cited her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Central Michigan University and two years of classroom experience. The motion—recorded in the meeting as moved by Dave and seconded by Heather—was approved by voice vote.

Superintendent Adam Spina recommended Michelle Rosa for a newly created director of student services position that the district described as encompassing special education oversight, 504 plans, Title IX when necessary, and social‑emotional learning. The board moved and seconded the motion and approved Rosa’s hire for 2026–27. After the vote Rosa addressed the board, saying she was “extremely excited and glad to be back” and that she would prioritize student needs and embed social‑emotional learning in her work (Michelle Rosa, Director of Student Services candidate).

The board also approved Christopher Armour as principal of Williamston High School, effective July 1, 2026. The superintendent highlighted Armour’s progression from teacher to assistant principal and the selection committee’s strong recommendation. Armour, who will lead the high school, thanked the board and said he “looks forward to the next years until I may retire, to continue helping the district grow and supporting staff and students.”

All three personnel motions were presented and passed during the meeting; the chair offered congratulations after each vote.
