Commissioners approve MOU to pursue leftover state funding for electronic poll books

The Delaware County Board of Commissioners approved Resolution 26-344 authorizing a memorandum of understanding with the Ohio Secretary of State and the Delaware County Board of Elections to pursue additional state funding tied to the 2015 electronic poll pad program.
Brian Hester, deputy director of the Board of Elections, told the commission that when the county first participated in the state program there remained roughly $10,000–$11,000 of the county’s allocation. After a recent county-funded update of about $315,000 to upgrade iPads and printers for the poll book system, Hester said he located a provision in the most recent state budget that makes those leftover allocations available for additional county purchases. He said the county is seeking the MOU to claim that funding and that feedback on the new poll pads has been "phenomenal."
Commissioners praised poll workers and approved the memorandum so the board of elections can attempt to secure the additional state allocation.
