Kings Mountain plans to expand Everbridge notification system to reach more residents

Communications Specialist Gabriel Thomas told the Kings Mountain City Council on Jan. 13 that staff plans to expand use of the city's Everbridge mass notification system to reach more residents and provide a broader set of messages.
Thomas said Everbridge has been in place for more than a decade and currently has "a little over 8,000" subscribers, including white- and yellow-pages listings. Historically used for severe weather and urgent public-safety alerts, staff propose shifting Everbridge toward also sending service updates and other non-emergency notices so residents who do not use social media receive timely city information. Thomas said a public-awareness and sign-up campaign will be launched this year with the goal of significantly increasing subscriber numbers.
Council did not take formal action on the presentation; staff will proceed with outreach planning and report back to council as needed.
