District presents DCAP review and five-year postsecondary readiness plan

Marshalltown administrators presented the district's Career & Academic Plan (DCAP) annual review and a five-year postsecondary readiness strategic plan at the May 18 meeting, highlighting expanded work-based learning and partnerships with local employers and colleges.
Jenny Allen, the district's curriculum and professional development leader for college and career readiness, said the DCAP is intended to ensure students graduate with a plan and opportunities to connect to postsecondary education and the workforce. "The goal of the DCAP is not simply to help students graduate, it's to help students graduate with a plan, a purpose, and opportunities ready to connect to their future," she said.
Presenters told trustees that an evaluation change from a centralized AEA scoring team to a peer-scoring model this year reduced the district's numerical DCAP score because many peer scorers had limited training and calibration. District staff said the score did not fully reflect improvements in evidence collection, career-connected learning and alignment to DCAP indicators and said they welcome the AEA's return to a centralized scoring team next year.
Administrators described a five-year postsecondary readiness strategic plan developed with a work-based learning consultant and noted collaborations with the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce and Iowa Valley Community College District. The district also recognized high school students who earned college credentials through Marshalltown Community College while still in high school.
Board members asked clarifying questions about scoring categories, data collection and how DCAP performance ties into the state school performance profile; presenters explained which grade bands are reported to the state and how DCAP components connect to other district systems such as Xello.
