Mauldin — The City Council approved the fiscal year 2026–27 budget on first reading at its May 18 meeting, with Finance Chair Mister Reynolds calling it a “maintenance” budget that preserves existing service levels while funding planned capital items.
Reynolds, who presented the budget to the council, said the plan includes roughly $3,000,000 for police and fire vehicles, continued road resurfacing and investments in parks and trails. “There’s it’s a balanced budget with no tax increases,” Reynolds said during discussion.
City Administrator Seth Duncan summarized operational and event preparations tied to the budget, including plans for opening events at GE Vernova Park and staffing and traffic arrangements for June 3. Duncan also highlighted a reported 2025 population estimate of 31,465 for Mauldin — a 27% increase since 2020 — as part of the city’s planning context for upcoming years.
Council members described the budget process as thorough and routine. Reynolds said the FY2025–26 budget amendment before the council is primarily a housekeeping measure to capture end-of-year appropriations and avoid multiple amendments during the fiscal year.
The budget passed on first reading by voice vote with no opposition recorded. As a next step the ordinance will return for a second reading and final vote per the council’s rules.
