The Des Moines Independent Comm School District board took several procedural and formal actions on May 19.
The board approved the meeting agenda by a recorded vote of 7–0 after a motion and second were made and called by the chair.
On the consent agenda, the board approved bills previously authorized, certified and approved for payment by the board secretary totaling $4,771,726.33. Miss Campos moved to approve the consent items and Dix seconded; the consent items were approved 7–0.
A pulled personnel recommendation (item F‑1) was brought up for consideration. Dix moved the item and Doctor Mayberry Mays seconded; the board approved the personnel recommendation 6–0 with one abstention.
Later in the meeting, Doctor Mayberry Mays moved that the board enter closed session citing Iowa Code section 21.5(1)(i), which permits a governmental body to hold a closed session to evaluate the professional competency of an individual under limited circumstances; Miss Campos seconded. The roll call vote recorded unanimity and the motion passed 7–0. The board recessed and transitioned to closed session at 6:05 p.m.
No additional public actions on the personnel matter were recorded in the public portion of the meeting; the closed session was taken under the statutory exception noted above.
