Owner given more time to document repair plan for 601 South Hackberry

The Building Standards Board on Aug. 14, 2025, reset the case for 601 South Hackberry to give the owner additional time to provide documentation showing a viable repair plan rather than ordering demolition.
Dangerous‑premises officer Cynthia Santana presented photos and a timeline showing smoke and fire damage from Feb. 2024, missing water service since March 2024, detached siding, a deteriorated porch and other deficiencies. Santana recommended repair because many structural members appeared salvageable and there was no evidence of ongoing police activity.
Owner and life‑estate holder Angela Jarman told the board she has been arranging renovations, has a contractor scheduled to inspect and estimate work, and plans to proceed in stages using personal funds and some insurance proceeds; she said she will purchase a new gate and secure the site. Jarman acknowledged she had not yet pulled permits or provided the engineer’s report staff requested.
Board member Fred Andes moved to reset the hearing so the owner could compile required documents; staff clarified scheduling will be coordinated after documents are submitted. The board voted unanimously to reset the case. Staff said the reset is not open‑ended and that the city will work with the owner to set a reasonable timeline for return.
