Northglenn staff previews 2027 budget calendar; council asks for earlier detail

Deputy city manager Loveland presented the city’s draft calendar for preparing the 2027 budget and outlined key dates: study sessions on Aug. 3 and Aug. 17, a formal presentation Sept. 21, the proposed budget in the council packet on Oct. 12, and adoption planned for Oct. 26.
Loveland said staff will kick off work with department directors immediately and that the calendar is a working document. He said staff’s goal is to provide more detailed line-item information earlier and to distribute the full packet to council on or before July 20 to allow sufficient review time.
Council member Goff and others asked how the city would handle the budget if substantial additional revenue appears during the year and whether the earlier schedule leaves flexibility. Loveland responded that the schedule is flexible and that the city charter and state statute allow adoption through the end of the calendar year if needed.
Why it matters
The calendar sets deadlines and public-notice milestones for budget review, hearings and adoption. Council members requested additional lead time and line-item detail so they can review proposals thoroughly before study sessions and votes.
