Northglenn council approves park design contract, school IGA and park lighting

At its May council meeting, the Northglenn City Council unanimously approved three resolutions related to parks and facilities improvements.
Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture Amanda Peterson told the council the first resolution would "authorize a contract with RDG for the design of future improvements at Eleanor M. Wyatt Centennial Park" at a cost of "$125,450 with a 15% contingency," and that the work is "partially funded with a grant from Adams County Open Space." Council had no questions and the motion passed unanimously.
The council next approved an intergovernmental agreement with Adams 12 Five Star Schools clarifying maintenance responsibilities for JD Caton Park, adjacent to Hillcrest Elementary. Peterson explained the district is replacing a playground that extends into an area the city historically maintained; under the IGA the district will take responsibility for the new playground area while the city will continue maintaining the remainder of the park. Council approved the IGA unanimously.
Finally, Peterson described a professional services agreement with Musco Sports Lighting LLC for the installation of lighting at the basketball court at Alvin B. Thomas Park. The contract is for $88,000 with a 15% contingency and is funded in part by an Adams County Open Space grant. The council approved the contract unanimously.

Why it matters

Next steps
Peterson said the RDG design timeline includes committee review and public outreach, with committee meetings beginning the week after the council meeting. The Musco installation and further site improvements will come forward as additional contracts later this summer.
