Committee considers special Delaware State University license plate to raise student funds

Senate Bill 305 was presented May 13, 2026 to create a specialty license plate for Delaware State University. Senator Trey Pardee described a $65 total fee for the plate, with $15 of that allocated to DelDOT as an administrative fee and $50 returned to Delaware State University as a fundraising mechanism to support student needs beyond scholarships.
Tanisha Baker, senior director of alumni engagement at Delaware State University, told the committee the DSU community showed strong early interest, with over 700 alumni, students and staff signing up to express support. Baker said proceeds would help with expenses such as food, books and travel for internships and conferences.
The committee did not take a vote during the hearing.
