Trickett said the costs were budgeted and would be paid to the general contractor, ECI Construction, which coordinates subcontractors and procurement. He described the intent as bringing Southern to a comparable standard with other district middle schools and said the work is already included in the project contingency in the capital budget.
Board members asked whether the items would change the overall budget; Trickett said the work is already budgeted and the change orders alter the amount paid to ECI Construction but not the appropriation from district contingency. Trustees approved operations items 10.1–10.5, including the Southern change orders, by roll call (8–0).
The board did not table or amend the orders; work will proceed as part of the phased renovation schedule for Southern Middle School.
